At the heart of The Portuguese Crown sits an extraordinary 4-carat Portuguese-cut diamond—a cut rarely seen in traditional fine jewelry and immediately recognizable for its incredible depth, complexity, and brilliance.

While a traditional round brilliant diamond typically contains 57 or 58 facets, a classic Portuguese cut can feature around 161 facets, depending on the exact cutting pattern. That means nearly three times as many individual surfaces interacting with light. Rather than producing the broader flashes associated with a standard round brilliant, the Portuguese cut creates layer upon layer of reflection, giving the diamond its mesmerizing, almost kaleidoscopic appearance.

Creating a Portuguese-cut diamond is also considerably more complex than producing a conventional brilliant. The cutter must carefully align multiple tiers of tiny facets while preserving symmetry, proportion, and the weight of the stone. Because the design requires additional labor, precision, and suitable rough material—and because relatively few diamonds are cut this way—large Portuguese-cut diamonds are especially uncommon.
